Recycle Everywhere Providing 10,000 Recycling Bins to Manitobans

Celebrate Sustainability Month with Free Recycling Bins

WINNIPEG, MB – Do you need a recycling bin? Recycle Everywhere is on a mission to ensure everyone in Manitoba has free access to recycling bins this October in celebration of sustainability month.

The Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA), the not-for-profit organization responsible for operating the non-alcoholic beverage container recycling program called Recycle Everywhere in the province, has teamed up with prominent organizations including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, CF Polo Park, Red River Co-op (Brandon) and City Centre Mall (Thompson), to give away more than 10,000 free at-home recycling bins and bin bags to those that didn’t have bins in their homes.

“Throughout the year we get so many requests from Manitobans for a variety of recycling bins to meet their needs,” explains Sheri Moerkerk, Director, Marketing and Communications for Recycle Everywhere. “What better way to celebrate a month focused on sustainability than making sure everyone has the perfect recycling bin for their residence, whether they live in a house, condo, apartment, or cottage,” she says.

Manitobans can pick-up the free home bins and bin bags at these locations and times:

  • October 5, 2024 – 1 to 5 pm at CF Polo Park near the center court escalators, 1485 Portage
    Avenue, Winnipeg, MB
  • October 10, 2024 – 1 to 5 pm Co-op Marketplace, 1035 Richmond, Brandon, MB
  • October 25, 2024 – noon to 5 pm at City Centre Mall, 274 Thompson Drive, Thompson, MB

Cleanest Playground Challenge
For the month of October, Recycle Everywhere has challenged all schools in the province to participate in the cleanest playground challenge as part of its Recycle Everywhere 101 program. Open to all kindergarten to grade 12 schools in Manitoba, participating classrooms will receive free clean-ups kits which can be used to safely to pick-up litter and recyclables. All participating classes will be entered to win $5000 worth of the school supplies or an ultimate pizza party to celebrate their effort in keeping our province clean and litter free.

“Manitobans now have access to one recycling bin for every 17 Manitobans,” says Jaclyn Diduck, Recycle Everywhere Senior Manager, Programs. “One of the great things about increased access to recycling is a reduction of litter across our communities and clean-ups like this make a real difference, ensuring even discarded beverage containers make their way to a material recovery facility” she says, noting that a beverage container thrown away can take hundreds of years to break
down in a landfill.
